The twisted minds of two of the six screenwriters behind “Scary Movie” – Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg – this time skewer the romantic comedy genre. The new film tells the story of hopeless romantic Julia Jones (Hannigan), who has finally met the man of her dreams, the very British Grant Funckyerdoder (Campbell). But before they can have their “Big Fat Greek Wedding,” they’ll have to “Meet the Parents;” hook-up with “The Wedding Planner,” and contend with Grant’s friend Andy – a spectacularly beautiful woman who wants to put an end to her “Best Friend’s Wedding.”
There are people who find this sort of humor funny, and people that don’t. The people that do support “artists” like Brittney Spears and probably think that 9/11 was an invasion of the U.S. by Iraq. Then there’s the rest of us. You know, High School graduates.
Maybe I’m being a little unfair. Date Movie’s trailer isn’t absolutely horrible. There’s a bit of somewhat creative fat-suite comedy mixed into it, and Alyson Hannigon is in it. That’s always a plus. But beyond the presence of an ex-Buffy babe this is basically Scary Movie. What they’re parodying is irrelevant, expect more of that same sort of obvious humor.
If you’re looking for sketch comedy (because that’s really what this is), you’re better off watching Saturday Night Live, a show which, after the CHRONIC…what…cles of Narnia is officially getting better again. Give me more of that Sandberg kid and less of movies like this.
