The film won the Waldo Screenwriting Award at Sundance—and was nominated for best drama—during its turn at bat. Despite the laud, the film was never released wider than 182 theaters, which means there should be plenty of interested parties waiting to catch the flick when it hits homes. Safety Not Guaranteed is coming to Blu-ray on October 30. To celebrate, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is giving away a copy of the film for one lucky fan.

Safety Not Guaranteed Promises To Hit Blu-ray In October Safety Not Guaranteed Promises To Hit Blu-ray In October
Safety Not Guaranteed was a festival darling that won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award and was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. Unfortunately, some very fine movie aficionados managed to miss the science fiction-oriented comedy, a problem which can be rectified when Safety Not Guaranteed hits Blu-ray and DVD on October 30.

Safety Not Guaranteed Featurette Explores The Inspiration For The Time Travel-Themed Film Safety Not Guaranteed Featurette Explores The Inspiration For The Time Travel-Themed Film
Safety Not Guaranteed screened at the Sundance Film Festival last January, and those fortunate enough to attend the South by Southwest Film Festival may have gotten the opportunity to see it there. Our own Sean O'Connell had good things to say about the film at SXSW, saying that it had a "great spirit about it," and talking about the good chemistry among the cast.

Safety Not Guaranteed Trailer Sells Winning Comedy Without Spoiling Much Safety Not Guaranteed Trailer Sells Winning Comedy Without Spoiling Much
The trick of Safety is not revealing too much of the story’s direction, though that teaser really manages to convey the different emotional swings Trevorrow and screenwriter Derek Connolly strive for (and achieve).

“To a certain extent, you understand that,” Duplass told me. “People like to do that stuff. But I think you do bring up a good point in that this is not a time travel film. This is a relationship movie seen through the prism of time travel, and the metaphor that time travel is."

SXSW: Killer Joe Shocks, Safety Charms And Nature Calls SXSW: Killer Joe Shocks, Safety Charms And Nature Calls
Colin Trevorrow’s Safety Not Guaranteed has been my festival favorite, by far. The open-hearted, snappy and sarcastic crowd-pleaser tells the off-beat story of three Seattle journalists investigating a loner (Mark Duplass) who takes out a classified ad seeking a partner for a time-travel mission. As the relationships unfold and the film’s strong emotional ties deepen, however, Safety become less about traveling through time and more about why individuals would choose to travel in the first place.

A few jump out at me at first glance. SXSW is bringing the Sundance time-travel comedy Safety Not Guaranteed to Austin. As we reported, FilmDistrict grabbed the distribution rights while in Park City, though I’m anxious to see it before it hits theaters.

Sundance Video Blog And Reviews: Safety Not Guaranteed And Compliance Sundance Video Blog And Reviews: Safety Not Guaranteed And Compliance
With just two days left to go at Sundance, it's not so much about seeing new movies as it is finally writing about the ones you've already seen. So with a slow day of movies ahead of us, Matt Patches and I recorded a video blog this morning outside the Library Theater, after we'd been turned away from a screening that apparently we showed up too late for
