The LEGO Movie 2 Synopsis
The Lego Movie 2 is not the film's final title, though it's safe to assume that whatever the final title is, it'll have the word "Lego" somewhere in it.

This sequel, Lego Movie 2 was planned even before the first film was released, so sure was Warner Bros. of its success. As it turns out, they were right. The original Lego Movie was a massive critical and financial success, making The Lego Movie 2 an easy commitment.

The directors of the first film, Phil Lord and Chis Miller, will not return to direct the sequel. Instead they've hired Chris McKay for Lego Movie 2. McKay served as animation co-director on the initial film.

One Clear Way LEGO Movie 2 Will Be Different From LEGO Movie 1 One Clear Way LEGO Movie 2 Will Be Different From LEGO Movie 1
While The LEGO Movie did have a couple of great female characters, including Elizabeth Banks' Wildstyle and Alison Brie's Unikitty, the story was largely driven and largely filled with male characters, including Chris Pratt's Emmet, Will Ferrell's Lord Business, Will Arnett's Batman, Morgan Freeman's Vitruvius and more. As the upcoming sequel moves its way though development, however, it looks like that's one element that will soon be changing.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller truly seem to have the Midas touch. As the duo explained to us while on the set of the upcoming 22 Jump Street, every feature project they have taken on - from Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs to 21 Jump Street to The LEGO Movie - seemed like a terrible idea at the start of its development, but they have managed to create gold each and every time out.

McKay’s previous credits include an extended stint on the television series Robot Chicken, where he also helmed the TV movie Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode III. I wonder if that means we’ll get even more Star Wars characters in the LEGO sequel?

Rather than keeping the franchise stuck in winter, however, the follow-up will be doing some season hopping. The studio hopes that the first movie's big success will translate to the summer blockbuster months, as the untitled sequel will be in theaters on May 26, 2017. As you probably could have guessed, the date is so far in the future that it doesn't currently have any direct release date competition, but there are some big titles that are orbiting around it.

Hollywood loves to count its chickens before they've hatched - studios developing sequels before they've confirmed that there is a real audience for the original - and that plan of action is once again in the works for the upcoming LEGO Movie.
