V/H/S/2 Synopsis

Inside a darkened house looms a column of TVs littered with VHS tapes, a pagan shrine to forgotten analog gods. The screens crackle and pop endlessly with monochrome vistas of static—white noise permeating the brain and fogging concentration. But you must fight the urge to relax: this is no mere movie night. Those obsolete spools contain more than just magnetic tape. They are imprinted with the very soul of evil.

From the demented minds that brought you last year’s V/H/S comes V/H/S/2, an all-new anthology of dread, madness, and gore. This follow-up ventures even further down the demented path blazed by its predecessor, discovering new and terrifying territory in the genre. This is modern horror at its most inventive, shrewdly subverting our expectations about viral videos in ways that are just as satisfying as they are sadistic. The result is the rarest of all tapes—a second generation with no loss of quality.

The sequel actually looks leaps and bounds better than the first. Almost every second of this trailer provoked a “What the fuck is that?” shot of anticipation through my spine, or whatever body part horror happens to inhabit.

V/H/S/2 Gets Vivid New Theatrical Poster V/H/S/2 Gets Vivid New Theatrical Poster
In keeping with the design from the first film’s poster, this new one-sheet for the upcoming horror anthology sequel V/H/S/2 sticks to focusing on a skullish design for some reason, and it isn’t quite as effective as the first. Perhaps that’s because huge stacks of VHS tapes are vaguely ominous and super-bright shades of red are blinding.

Tribeca Film Festival: V/H/S/2 Is More Frightening And Way More Fun Than The First Tribeca Film Festival: V/H/S/2 Is More Frightening And Way More Fun Than The First
Like V/H/S, this short is by far the weakest, focusing on some vile crooks who break into a house where they discover a stack of strange VHS tapes. However, V/H/S/2's other shorts are generally, stronger, smarter and more ambition than those we saw the first time around with a mix of body horror, science fiction, well-teased tension, and of course lots of gore.
