3 Types Of Facebook Statuses I Don't Know Whether Or Not To Like
I work on the Internet for a living. Because of that, I glance at Facebook a lot. I’m not going to get into how often right now a) because my boss might be reading and b) because it’s an embarrassing amount for an adult man. Let’s just agree it’s enough to run into a lot of overly complicated ethical dilemmas on social media. Because of this, I’ve become pretty savvy.
Man Wanted for Assault Shares Police Facebook Status, Gets Arrested
I sympathize with those who are unable control their Facebook urges––well, except for this numbskull, who got arrested earlier this week after sharing a FB status that called for his arrest.
What's The Deal With The Giraffe Facebook Profile Photos?
Let me guess, all of a sudden your friends have changed their Facebook profile photo to a picture of a giraffe and you’re wondering what it is you’re missing. Is this some kind of show of support to long-necked mammals? Are giraffes the new “My letter is…” or Bitstrips? These viral forms of procrastination are hard to keep up with, aren’t they?
Amazon's New Facebook Birthday Feature Lets Friends Pool Their Money For A Gift Card
As we grow up, birthdays become a bit less of a gift affair and more of a cause for quiet celebration or maybe cake at the office or some good food and drinks with friends. There's also the inevitable flood of Facebook messages from all of your friends and acquaintances wishing you an awesome day, which, let's face it, is kind of great. Because when you're a grown-up, it's considered uncool to announce your birthday wherever you go.
Facebook Redesign: Check Out What The Site Will Look Like
This morning, the fine folks over at Facebook announced a complete design overhaul of the various feeds. Apparently, the most consistent critique the design team has gotten over the past few years has been clutter. People, including me and everyone I’ve ever talked about it with, have always wanted a way to have more control over what stories pop up. If this design implementation goes according to plan, that might actually happen.
New Comedy Video Explains Where Facebook Gets Its Terrible Ideas
When Facebook first debuted, the social networking website was simple, streamlined and effective. I’m not sure anyone bothered to check, but if they had, I’m pretty sure the site’s approval rating would have been near 100. Unfortunately, over the past few years, Mark Zuckerberg and company have pissed off a percentage of their users by introducing new features people never asked for.
Jimmy Kimmel Challenges Facebook Users Ahead Of 3rd Annual National Unfriend Day
For fans of Jimmy Kimmel Live, that time of year is quickly approaching. The late night talk show host is preparing for the third annual "National UnFriend Day" or "NUD," which according to Kimmel, allows people to unfriend unwanted or unnecessary Facebook friends guilt-free. Watch the video of him talking about preparing for the approaching annual occasion.
5 Awful Types Of People We're All Friends With On Facebook
Nearly everyone finds themselves annoyed by the occasional awful Facebook friend. These protestors, stalkers and complainers usually creep onto your Facebook wall only to bother you when you least expect it. There are the family members who embarrass you at every corner, and those friends you’d just love to bail on—if they weren’t somehow involved in the periphery of the social group you network with.
Rumored Prince Harry Facebook Account Vanishes
We’ll likely never know how vicious of a lecture Prince Harry got from the Queen and other members of the Royal Family following his naked Vegas weekend, but if guesses are to be made based on his behavior, it was likely pretty stern. Prior to returning to work today, the third in line to the British throne removed himself from the public eye almost immediately after the snapshots went live, and perhaps more tellingly, he even deleted his Facebook account.
MTV Movie Awards Unveiling Brand New Twitter Tracker
The past twelve months have been chock full of suspense, action, and a whole lot of lip-locking. To celebrate, MTV plans to give out plenty of awards starting at 9 p.m. ET this evening; and the cable network company has even put together a "Twitter Tracker" and a Facebook "Timeline Tracker" to keep fans of the event as up to date as possible.
Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg Marries Longtime Girlfriend
With Facebook’s initial public offering on Friday, headman Mark Zuckerberg officially became a billionaire, but to one woman, he now boasts another important title: husband. The twenty-eight-year-old married his longtime girlfriend Priscilla Chan in a ceremony in the couple’s backyard earlier today.
Bono Should Become A Billionaire Today Thanks To Facebook
Obviously, the specifics of his total haul won’t be known for awhile until the Facebook stock stabilizes, but when the dust settles, Bono’s take should be enough to make him the richest musician in the world. Sir Paul McCartney previously held that honor with roughly a billion in total assets, but the former Beatle will now have to step aside thanks to a savvy playing of Wall Street.
iPad Finally Gets A Facebook App And It Looks Like It Was Worth The Wait
When I got my iPad, one of the things I was most excited to do was using my new favorite toy with Facebook. However I soon discovered what ever other iPad user most likely already new. There was no Facebook iPad app. Instead of a full-size app that made use of the space offered by the iPad’s large screen, those of us who wanted to do our social networking on the go with our Apple tablet had to get by with the iPhone app. A first world problem, if ever there was one...
Mark Zuckerberg Reveals The Incredible Future Of Facebook At The F8 Conference
With the generally praised (yet utterly redundant) Google+ finally open to the public, Facebook has been on the move to unveil it's next wave of updates. This past week we've seen a live-stream news feed, sidebar ticker update, and countless revamps of the photo sharing system hit everyone's favorite social networking platform. Even with all these design updates, people seemed to still be up in arms over yet another Facebook design change.
South Park Debuts Primus' New Album Green Naugahyde
It's obvious that this past tour was done solely on the fact of getting the trio prepared for a trip back to the studio and record Green Naugahyde. It obviously worked, too.
Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz Gets Her Walking Papers
After 2 1/2 years, Yahoo Inc CEO Carol Bartz was invited to step down with another year left on her contract. The decision from the company's independent board of directors came like a bad breakup: via phone call. At least it wasn't a text message, or a buzz from Yahoo Chat.
Facebook Bans Pictures Of Nirvana's Nevermind Album Cover
Some special interest groups protested the picture when it was first released, but by now, most people seem to have decided it's interesting and not offensive enough to cause a stir. Apparently, it still violates Facebook's terms of service though, and Mark Zuckerberg is having none of that shit
Google+: Why You Should Add Another Social Network To Your Bookmark Bar
Online social networking sites prove again and again to be the lightning rod the rest of the Internet connects to. As Facebook emerges as the world leader in social networking, Google strives to keep up with, and eventually knock down the super power created by Mark Zuckerberg. With their newest venture, Google+ tries to fix what went wrong with Google Wave; by that, I mean that they hope someone will actually use this. Google Wave was too complex for its own good; but that’s neither here nor there; it’s all about Google+ now.
Facebook Adds Video & Group Chat, Continues Communication Domination
Facebook is now capable of doing what Skype, AIM, Yahoo, MSN, and Meebo have been doing for years: Group and video chats. It’s a technological miracle, to be sure. So now you can finally group chat with people who were either too lazy or not technologically savvy enough to download a program like Skype or AIM; and we all know the type. Group chatting was already available in a sense with the Facebook Groups feature, but now you can set up a chat with multiple friends without setting up an entire group just to pick the movie you all want to go see.
MySpace Sold For $30 Million, Justin Timberlake Buys Stake
While Justin Timberlake will always be ingrained in my mind as Trey Parker, the sleazy Napster founder he played in David Fincher’s The Social Network this latest bit of news doesn’t surprise me. MySpace, the company bought by News Corp for 580 million dollars in 2005 has been sold to some tiny-ass advertisement-matchmaking company for under 40 million dollars. That’s it. Now word has broken that Justin Timberlake will have a stake in the long-dead social networking platform.
