Ariel Winter’s mother, Chrystal Workman, hasn’t had the best luck in court the past few weeks as she’s tried to maintain custody of the Modern Family star, but apparently, she hasn’t lost faith in the American legal system. Workman officially filed a lawsuit this morning over a quote that appeared in a Los Angeles Times article about the drama engulfing her family.

According to E! Online, the lawsuit is aimed at Matthew Borlenghi, a friend of Workman’s estranged daughter Shanelle Gray. He told The Los Angeles Times Ariel’s mother was “an abusive monster” looking to continue watching over her daughter in order to exploit her financially. The “abusive monster” portion is what Workman is reportedly furious over, but given all that’s happened recently, it’s unclear whether or not her defamation case holds any water.

Ordinarily, it would be pretty easy for someone to prove to a judge that abuse allegations amounted to defamation, but since Workman is currently in the midst of legal proceedings brought by her daughter over supposed abuses, the question of whether she is an abusive monster is still in doubt in the eyes of the court.

I get why Workman is pushing this into court. She doesn’t want to let anyone who even vaguely knows her talk shit in publications and drag her reputation through the mud any further, but as for this particular lawsuit, I’m not sure it will hold up.
