U.S. baseball superstar Barry Bonds faces a maximum of 30 years in prison after
he was indicted on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice on Thursday
(15Nov07).
The 43-year-old, who earlier this year (07) broke baseball's home-run record,
is accused of lying under oath to a federal grand jury investigation into
steroid use among professional athletes.
The indictment reads: "During the criminal investigation, evidence was
obtained including positive tests for the presence of anabolic steroids and
other performance-enhancing substances for Bonds and other athletes."
In 2003, Bonds told a grand jury he had never knowingly used
performance-enhancing drugs. (GES/WNWCPL&WNWA/KL)
