Bob Barker, the world's oldest living advocate for animal castration (it's OK, that's a good thing) and the host of the world's longest running source of entertainment for old folks and daytime television addicts, has finally decided to end his incredible Tv tenure. "I will be 83 years old on December 12," said Barker, "and I've decided to retire while I'm still young."
A literal living legend, Barker has been hosting game shows for 50 years, the last 35 of which has been spent telling folks to "come on down" on the "Price Is Right". While he's been considering retirement for nearly a decade he told the AP that he's had too much fun to quit. "I've gone on and on and on to this ancient age because I've enjoyed it," he said. "I've thoroughly enjoyed it and I'm going to miss it." No doubt millions will miss him too.
"I'm just reaching the age where the constant effort to be there and do the show physically is a lot for me," Barker added. "I might be able to do the show another year, but better (to leave) a year too soon than a year too late."
While his body may be getting a little too old to hold that 4 ounce microphone, there's nothing wrong with his sense of humor. When asked about movie options he said he'd be up for the challenge with one exception: "I refuse to do nude scenes. These Hollywood producers want to capitalize on my obvious sexuality, but I don't want to be just another beautiful body." Well, so much for playing Mr. Burns in any upcoming live action films. I hear Smithers dream sequences would be requisite for the role.
As for the fans, he has nothing but love. "From the bottom of my heart, I thank the television viewers, because they have made it possible for me to earn a living for 50 years doing something that I thoroughly enjoy. They have invited me into their homes daily for a half a century."
