Although Brad Pitt has yet to actually make a formal statement regarding his sexual preference, news has hit today that he is, in fact, straight.
In recent decades Hollywood has become a very accepting place for people regardless of their lifestyle choices. And yet, Pitt has been quoted as saying “I'm one of those people you hate because of genetics. It is the truth.” Is it possible Pitt may secretly foster worries about backlash?
Pitt has rarely spoken publicly about his sexual orientation, but many Hollywood associates have been very supportive of Pitt’s lifestyle choice. Actresses Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie, in particular, have been very vocal in their encouragement of his heterosexuality.
Of course, I have no actual information from any credible source to either confirm or deny Brad Pitt’s heterosexuality. But I was inspired to write it because apparently the sexual preferences of celebrities is big news and if it turns out I’m right, imagine the publicity I’ll get for breaking the story.
See, when Lance Bass made his big announcement, I figured it was like most other bits of celebrity lifestyle news. Weddings…pregnancies…unless it’s Brad Pitt the news is here today, gone tomorrow. Sure, it’s kind of ironic that a member of a boy band who spent all those years singing songs like “Girlfriend” and “I Thought She Knew” is now announcing that he’s into guys as more than just singing buddies. But why is the media scrambling to get everyone’s opinion on the matter and making a big deal interviewing the guy who supposedly “outed” Lance?
Hollywood stars seem more annoyed than anything when reporters ask them their thoughts on Bass’ announcement and I don’t blame them. It’s an embarrassing question. Does anyone really expect them to answer with something besides “he’s a great guy, I wish him all the best?” Apparently, in Hollywood and among true Lance Bass fans, it’s not even that big of a surprise. So why is it such huge celebrity news?
As a writer I sure hope this isn’t a publicity stunt to get Lance back in the limelight following his underwhelming failure to be the first pop singer in space. I sure don’t want to worry about being labeled homophobic if I don’t rush out to buy his next album. I actually think the announcement is a good thing. Being honest about yourself with others is important, but there’s no reason why the media should be making it such a big deal.
How do I feel about it personally? He’s a great guy. I wish him all the best.
