Clooney Feared For His Life In War-Torn Sudan

By Celeb Stink: 2008-04-02 19:47:21
Clooney Feared For His Life In War-Torn Sudan George Clooney feared for his life on his recent United Nations trip to war-torn Sudan - after he was held at gunpoint and robbed by child soldiers.

The Hollywood star spent 10 days in the troubled Darfur region of Sudan in 2006 to highlight the plight of the region's refugees. The trip was part of his duties as a United Nations Messenger of Peace.

But the Michael Clayton star, who has previously admitted to feeling "depressed" about the traumatic visit, faced a less-than-friendly welcoming party upon his arrival.

The 46-year-old reveals how he was stopped at checkpoints by machine gun-wielding adolescents - who took aim at the hunk and his entourage before stealing anything of value from his vehicle.

He tells Britain's Zoo magazine, "It was in southern Sudan and as we were going through checkpoints, there were all these young kids with AK47's. They went through the car and just took what they wanted."

"We hid all the tapes and stuff, but they pointed guns at us and stole what they could. It happens all the time. They obviously didn't know who we were. They don't have great TV out there." (MJ/ANML/MT)
