Filmmaker Peter Jackson is "doing well" after undergoing surgery to treat a perforated ulcer, but will remain in hospital for several more days as he recovers.

The Lord of the Rings director checked into the Wellington hospital in his native New Zealand last week (end30Jan11) after experiencing acute stomach pains. Jackson underwent an operation, and now his publicist, Melissa Booth, has revealed he is making progress and will be released from the medical facility in a few days time, reports the Associated Press.

Production on the highly-anticipated Lord Of The Rings prequel, The Hobbit, will be postponed to allow Jackson to make a full recovery. (KD/WNWA/MJ)
