Elton John Celebrates 60

SIR ELTON JOHN celebrated his 60th birthday with a host of celebrity friends, including MICHAEL STIPE, PIERCE BROSNAN, OZZY OSBOURNE and BETTE MIDLER, at a New York City cathedral last night (24MAR07).

The ROCKET MAN and husband DAVID FURNISH rented out the Gothic Cathedral of St. John the Divine for a second bash celebrating his 60th year, following a party in London last week (ends23MAR07). The 500-strong guestlist included JAMES BLUNT, EMMA THOMPSON, DONATELLA VERSACE, ROD STEWART, BILLIE JEAN KING, SHARON OSBOURNE, JON BON JOVI, SIR MICHAEL CAINE, RICHARD GERE, LIV TYLER, KID ROCK, EVE, WHOOPI GOLDBERG and newlyweds ELIZABETH HURLEY and ARUN NAYAR.

John ordered $18,000 (#9,230) of exotic flowers and 1,000 bottles of champagne for the party, which had a black tie dress code. The New York Post reported SCISSOR SISTERS, STING and SIR PAUL McCARTNEY all performed at the event.

I think it's rather disgraceful that the Cathedral would allow it's sanctuary to be used this way - by a man who has said that he thinks religion should be banned, no less. I guess that church values money more than church.

You\'re only upset about Elton\'s comment about religion needing to be banned BECAUSE He\'s Right. F*** religion. It only divides people. Read On,bro.
-All of the war,strife and duress over the course of history has it\'s fundamental roots stemming from MAN-MADE RELIGION. The days of the church being sancrosanct and of untouchable bounties of grace over are with. Overrun by greedy figureheads and pervo clergymen. If you feel you need to go run off and join a cult (which is what organized religions really are). Elton is honest and he\'s right. You know it too. And it bothers you. Believe in the god within you and go from there. What\'s the need with the rest of it? Getting up early on Sundays and all of that confirmation nonsense (said with all due respect to the pageantry angle of it,but that\'s about it) ? No thanks. I\'d rather be an honest devil-worshipper ;) than a deluded,hypocritical goody-goody. Ta!

i have been a fan of eltons all of his career, i love him . he is great i seen him many of times i only wish i was in new york for his 60th'happy happy birthday elton and many many more. i hope i can celebrate another birthday with you in chicago sometime. happy birthday elton the greatest
