Like the rest of the population, criminals range in intelligence from brilliant to moronic. We’ll know where this unidentified dude falls on the spectrum based on whether he’s quickly arrested or manages to avoid detection for a few years.

Yesterday morning, a plane landed at Philadelphia International Airport. It was carrying a large quantity of newly designed $100 bills set to hit the market in 2013. Following the successful landing, a courier service transported the notes to the Federal Reserve Building in East Rutherford, New Jersey. After they were unloaded a short time later, workers realized a healthy chunk of the $100s were gone.

Authorities have no idea exactly when the currency was stolen, but according to My Fox Philly, the FBI is hoping they’ll catch the thief shortly after he tries to pass one of the bills. In order for that to happen, however, the mystery dude who stole the $100s would either need to be so stupid he doesn’t realize the money looks different than what we’re all using now or so desperate he he’s willing to bank on some idiot merchant not knowing what our currency looks like.

It’s entirely possible the guy who took the money might try to pass it for one of the above reasons. I prefer to think he’s some kind of evil genius who knew he was stealing future money and will just sit on it until we’ve all gotten so used to the new hundreds we’ve stopped thinking about this theft.
