Former Academy Award nominee Heath Ledger passed away at his New York City home this afternoon. The twenty-eight year old was reportedly found by his housekeeper, and no foul play is suspected at the moment. Details on a cause of death are fuzzy at this point; so, I’ll withhold from making any overdose predictions.

According to TMZ, who first broke the story, the brilliant actor was found a little over an hour ago (3:30 Eastern). It’s amazing how quickly news travels of the internet.

Regardless of the ultimate coroner’s ruling, Heath Ledger was one of the best actors of his generation. From his early role in 10 Things I Hate About You to his Oscar nominated turn in Brokeback Mountain, his unique take on characterization and yes, even his boyish good looks will be missed. He melted my heart along with millions of other movie-goers, and whatever happened in that New York City apartment is a regrettable tragedy.

We here at Cinema Blend send out our condolences to Heath’s children, his family, and all those affected. Check back in the next few days, as we’ll continue to bring you all the new details as they emerge.

Here’s a video of Heath singing from 10 Things I Hate About You...
