Jimmy Fallon’s always been a big supporter of music. The man has the best house band of any late night program (sorry Paul Shaffer) and it makes sense that Kings of Leon would want to announce the group's newest album through the late night funnyman’s program. On Monday, the band posted the above video to its YouTube account, which features Fallon taking on an oddball voice to describe Kings of Leon’s upcoming sixth studio album, which will be hitting shelves on September 24, 2013.

The group’s new album has been in the works for a while, now, and will be called Mechanical Bull--a title which could provoke some very strange cover art. While we haven’t caught the cover art, yet, it’s nice to see the group make the sixth album official, as it assures fans the band is still making new music and is back on track.

Kings of Leon went through a rough patch the last time the group went on tour. Most startlingly, lead singer Caleb Followill left the stage mid-performance in 2011 after proclaiming he was “hot” and never returned to the stage, forcing the band to cancel the gig. The band later cancelled a slew of U.S. tour dates and Followill’s problems with alcohol were rumored to be the blame. All of this drama eventually led to a hiatus, but the group has played gigs over the past year and now it looks like the band members are rearing to put out some new music. The band also has a few tour dates set for over the summer and into the fall in locations that include Belfast, Glasgow and Texas’ Austin City Limits festival, among others. hopefully it won’t be too hot out when the group plans to play.

We’ll keep you posted when more news about Mechanical Bull breaks.
