I don’t care who you are, where you’re from, or what you do as long as we can agree Queen has some of the best basslines any side of the Mississippi. I don’t know if any bassline is as perfect in its catchiness and especially its simplicity as “Another One Bites the Dust,” although I would entertain an argument, especially if I could simultaneously advocate for Sly and the Family Stone’s “Thank You Falettinme B Mice Elf Agin.”
Alas, neither Queen nor the Family Stone topped the recent list of “Best Basslines of All Time,” a survey composed by Musicradar.com. Instead, the honor went to Muse’s hit 2003 song, “Hysteria” which actually has a rocking music video to boot. Rush’s “XYZ” followed, with Queen coming in third and fourth. I guess it’s pretty impressive “Another One Bites The Dust” and “Under Pressure” with David Bowie both made the top 25 cut, but still. James Brown rounded out the Top 25 with “Make it Funky.”
Here’s a list of the Top 10:
1. Muse “Hysteria
2. Rush “YYZ”
3. Queen “Another One Bites The Dust”
4. Queen and David Bowie “Under Pressure”
5. Pink Floyd “Money”
6. Metallica “Orion”
7. Michael Jackson “Billie Jean”
8. Yes “Roundabout”
9. The Who “My Generation”
10. Tool “Schism”
You can check the entire list over at Musicradar.com, where the site has included album covers as well as a means to listen to each song. If you have any beef, just remember: the whole thing was a user poll. It’s going to hit a lot harder with songs that are were super popular, big niche hits, or blatant answers. Don’t give ‘em too hard of a time if you happen to be more creative.
