For the second time in less than a year, Duchess Catherine has found herself at the center of a photo scandal, though these pictures likely won’t attract nearly as much attention as the topless shots that resulted in lawsuits, firings and widespread outrage. The newest round feature a bikini-clad and pregnant Kate Middleton alongside her husband during a private holiday on the Caribbean island of Mustique.
The pictures are set to run in the Italian gossip magazine Chi, the same outlet that published the lurid photos of the future Queen sans top, but this time, the issue isn’t so much the snapshots themselves as where they were taken. According to The Daily Mail, Mustique is a private island, and photographers have long been banned from taking pictures of celebrities vacationing there. That it’s a paparazzi free zone is one of the main reasons why the couple picked the destination for their vacation. Unfortunately, the island was unable to live up to that basic promise.
Here’s a portion of the Royal Family’s official comment on the matter…
”We are disappointed that photographs of the Duke and Duchess on a private holiday look likely to be published overseas.”
When celebrities are out in public, it’s reasonable for people, including professional photographers, to take pictures of them, but when they’re on vacation and there’s a reasonable expectation of privacy, said famous people have every right to be miffed about personal shots being made public.
Here’s to hoping no other publications decide to run the photographs after Chi.
