After filing for divorce in late 2010, Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds officially called it quits in July of 2011. Though it seems as if both halves of the couple have been operating independently for a while, the split really was not so long ago. For Johansson, despite an amicable nature of the parting, the sting of separation is still apparent.
The actress recently spoke with Vogue about everything from Woody Allen to cooking with onions. The topic of conversation eventually hit her former relationship and the normally private actress was surprisingly candid with her speech, speaking tenderly about how her marriage and its subsequent end will never totally leave her.
“I don’t feel on the other side of it completely, but it gets better. It’s still there. More than anything, it’s just that not having your buddy around all the time is weird. There’s no rule book. I think it’s just time.”
Right after the divorce, Johansson’s feelings about the divorce were a lot more acute.
“This was something I never thought I would be doing. And there’s no way to navigate it. Nobody can give you the right answer. It’s never anything you want to hear. It’s a very lonely thing. It’s like the loneliest thing you’ll ever do, in some way.”
Despite her troubling year, the actress seems fairly excited about the future, stating 2012 will be “interesting” and she has a lot to look forward to, including a stint as a superhero in the upcoming Avengers movie. As long as she maintains the mentality she currently seems to be courting, it looks like her year will be something to pay attention to.
“Yeah, everything’s been really great right now. It’s been a good time. I’ve had peace. Relative peace. I just want to work on things that are really hard, and when I’m not working on things that are really hard, I want to hang out with people I like to be with, and that’s it.”
If that means more indie flicks, than I’m in.
