Everyone’s had one of those mornings. You wake up, at first a little confused and angry because of a splitting headache, and then it hits you in one wet and seafood-stuffed truth wave. The memories of a night of bad decisions all come flooding back. There’s shame, disappointment and in the case of Trace Adkins, a ticket to rehab.
The fifty-two-year-old country singer, Celebrity Apprentice winner and sometimes actor was on a cruise ship earlier this week when he allegedly fell off the wagon for the first time in twelve years. According to TMZ, it did not end well. He allegedly came across a Trace Adkins impersonator who was performing Karaoke and promptly fought him for reasons the general public is not yet privy to.
For some rock stars, the bad night would simply add one hilarious story to their crazy reputations, but at this point in his career, Adkins isn’t interested in making tabloid headlines. Instead, he’s interested in pleasing his fans, raising money for charity and spending time with his family. At the very end of 2001, he checked into rehab in order to make those goals a whole lot easier to accomplish, and by all accounts, it had been very smooth sailing since then.
Here’s what the singer’s representative told E! News…
"Trace has entered a treatment facility after a setback in his battle with alcoholism. As he faces these issues head-on, we ask that his family's privacy will be respected."
Details on where exactly the facility might be or how long he’ll be there haven’t been made public, but that’s definitely for the best. The whole point of rehab is for the person to get better for themselves and for their families. It’s not to feed the public’s appetite for gossip. Besides, the best thing Trace can do for his fans would be to get sober over the long haul.
Pop Blend’s sincerest well-wishes go out to Adkins during this time of need. Here’s to hoping he’s able to battle hard and find the light at the end of the tunnel.
