12 Days of Christmas: Blade Runner: The Final Cut It’s time to celebrate the Christmas/ Chanukah/ Kwanza/ Festivus Holiday season, so here at Cinema Blend we’re enjoying Twelve Days of Christmas. Yes, we know traditionally the “12 days” start with Christmas, but we plan on being celebrated out by that time, so we’re pushing the twelve days leading up to the holiday.

Here at DVD Blend, we’re celebrating by suggesting some of the more impressive DVD sets to come out this year. Think of the list as a buying guide for the movie fanatic in your life, just in case you haven’t thought of something for them already.

On the fifth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…

Blade Runner: The Final Cut

For far too long Blade Runner has been a noticeable gap in most DVD Collector’s collections. The only version available on DVD was the contested “Director’s Cut” which seemed to make a mess of the movie for a lot of fans. This year Warner Brothers decided to finally fix that with a new edit of Blade Runner that fixes all the problems caused by the Director’s Cut.

But what if you don’t want a new edit of the movie? What if you just want the classic version of the sci-fi picture you’ve come to love? Well, that’s where the options for Blade Runner: The Final Cut really excel. Available in different versions ranging from 2-disc to 5-disc, you can have the version of Blade Runner you want to see. The 2-disc version just contains the new edit and a documentary, but go for the 5-disc and you get everything from the original workprint of the movie to the theatrical cut to the new Final Cut, and several versions in between.

Of course, you really want to splurge for your loved ones for the holidays, so set your eyes on the ultimate packaging for the DVD set: a replica of Deckard’s briefcase. This is one of those “must haves” for the sci-fi fan, so treat your potential Replicant right and go for broke. They’ll thank you for it.

The perfect gift for… any science-fiction fan – that’s how long we’ve been waiting for a set like this. Available in DVD, Blu-ray, and HD DVD, there’s really no excuse for not picking it up.
