It’s time to celebrate the Christmas/ Chanukah/ Kwanza/ Festivus Holiday season, so here at Cinema Blend we’re enjoying Twelve Days of Christmas. Yes, we know traditionally the “12 days” start with Christmas, but we plan on being celebrated out by that time, so we’re pushing the twelve days leading up to the holiday.
Here at DVD Blend, we’re celebrating by suggesting some of the more impressive DVD sets to come out this year. Think of the list as a buying guide for the movie fanatic in your life, just in case you haven’t thought of something for them already.
On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…
Walt Disney’s first creation, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit
Before Walt Disney created Mickey Mouse, he created Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Unfortunately some ugly maneuvering cost the future visionary his original creation and damaged his partnership with the legendary Ub Iwerks. In the past few years the Walt Disney company has managed to regain the rights to Oswald and has released a collection of the animated shorts on DVD this year as part of their metal tin “Walt Disney Treasures” collection.
The DVD set includes the collection of animated shorts as well as a look at the work of Walt’s partner, Ub Iwerks, including a restored version of the first appearance of Mickey Mouse, “Steamboat Willie”. Other included featurettes look at Iwerks and the process of returning Oswald to his original home.
The perfect gift for… that Disney fanatic who has all of the existing movies on DVD already.
