It’s time to celebrate the Christmas/ Chanukah/ Kwanza/ Festivus Holiday season, so here at Cinema Blend we’re enjoying Twelve Days of Christmas. Yes, we know traditionally the “12 days” start with Christmas, but we plan on being celebrated out by that time, so we’re pushing the twelve days leading up to the holiday.
Here at DVD Blend, we’re celebrating by suggesting some of the more impressive DVD sets to come out this year. Think of the list as a buying guide for the movie fanatic in your life, just in case you haven’t thought of something for them already.
On the second day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…
Twin Peaks: The Definitive Gold Box Edition
Dynamic shows like Lost get a lot of breaks these days. A decade and a half ago, Twin Peaks offered up a bizarre mystery in a strange little town, but didn’t get the shot that the survivors of Oceanic 815 have gotten. In fact, the series ended without a lot of the questions ever getting answers, but that didn’t stop people from continuing to get caught up in the series.
This year Paramount tried to appease fans who had been stuck for years between the few seasons getting onto DVD. The result was The Definitive Gold Box, which carries all 29 episodes as well as a ton of supplementary material, from deleted scenes to actor Kyle MacLachlan’s appearance on Saturday Night Live. The set has also been the perfect excuse for non-fans to get drawn into the series that will never get its ending; a testament to how remarkable an entry in the history of television Twin Peaks was.
The perfect gift for… people who love the mystery of Lost or Heroes but don’t mind not getting answers for those mysteries.
