The Crazies Are Loose On DVD And Blu-Ray June 29th

The Nightmare on Elm Street reboot is respectable, but I’ve got something that’s an all-around fantastic horror movie update. Don’t believe me? Perhaps that’s because you’ve never seen Breck Eisner’s The Crazies.

When the residents of Ogden Marsh unknowingly drink tap water contaminated with a biological weapon, they go crazy -- literally. With their infected friends and family out for blood and the Army looking to exterminate anyone threatening to spread the virus, four survivors (Timothy Olyphant, Radha Mitchell, Joe Anderson, and Danielle Panabaker) are left to fend for themselves and do whatever’s necessary to stay alive and sane.

The Crazies is the horror remake we’ve all been waiting for. The plot of George A. Romero’s 1973 original retains its value, but otherwise, the film is dated. Eisner artfully modernizes the best of Romero’s work, creating a horror thriller guaranteed to appeal to a contemporary crowd while still honoring its source material.

Even after two viewings in the theater, I cannot get enough of The Crazies, which is why I’m thrilled to announce that both the DVD and the BD come packed with more than 90 minutes of bonus material. The DVD will be priced at $29.98 and the BD edition at $39.99. Both will come with the same array of extra material, although the BD will include a digital copy of the film. Ten bucks more to watch one of my favorite films of the year whenever and wherever I want? Come June 29th, I’ll take it.
