Alan Moore's Mindscape Revealed On DVD

Alan Moore's Mindscape Revealed On DVD If you’ve seen V for Vendetta, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen or are excited about the upcoming Watchmen, you’ve sampled the works of Alan Moore. You may not be aware of what a misunderstood genius Moore is, which some translate as a raving lunatic. Basically, the artist keeps himself separate from the world, refuses to acknowledge the movie versions of his comic book work, and comes across as quite the curmudgeonly hermit.

Somehow, The Disinformation Company and director DeZ Vylenz managed to get an interview with Moore, which they have transformed into The Mindscape of Alan Moore, a two hour documentary that assembles a portrait of the author and looks at Moore’s world, with the artist as the guide.

The Mindscape of Alan Moore is coming to DVD in a 2-disc collector’s set, hitting stores on September 30th. Along with the documentary, the set will include interviews with some of Moore’s peers and collaborators, including Dave Gibbons (Watchmen), David Lloyd (V For Vendetta), and others.

Typically, I’m not one to quickly promote a release that is so clearly attempting to market on another movie’s success. Make no bones about it, the press release for this DVD even goes so far to say that more copies were printed following the overwhelming reception of Watchmen at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Still, Moore is so selective about who he grants interviews to, the chance to see the author discuss his own life is too compelling to pass up.

Take a look at the bonus material below, as well as the cover art. Check out The Mindscape of Alan Moore on September 30th.

  • Interviews with Melinda Gebbie (“Lost Girls”), Dave Gibbons (“Watchmen”), David Lloyd (“V For Vendetta”), Kevin O’Neill (“League of Extraordinary Gentlemen”) and Jose Villarubia (“Promethia” and “Mirror of Love”)
  • “Making of” featurette
  • Introduction to Alan Moore’s work by Paul Gravett
  • Selected scene analysis with director’s commentary
  • Interviews with director, composer and special make-up FX artist
