David Arquette has come up with one of the strangest horror movie ideas I’ve heard in a long time: a guy dresses up in a Ronald Regan costume and kills hippies at a Woodstockian festival. It’s called The Tripper and, while it only got a limited theatrical run, it’s headed for DVD just in time for Halloween.
Low budget flicks like this typically get to have a lot of fun with DVD releases, and this is no different. For one, the edition being released on DVD is an upgraded “director’s cut” with more blood and gore. A director and cast commentary will be included (the cast is really something amazing, including Thomas Jayne, Jason Mewes, Jaime King, and Paul Reubens). The disc will also have deleted scenes, outtakes, a making-of documentary, and a featurette following Arquette around on his promotional tour.
When we interviewed Arquette about The Tripper, he mentioned he had ideas for a sequel. Since the theatrical run was pretty tight, DVD is going to be your chance to support Arquette and The Tripper, headed for DVD on October 30th.
