August Rush Gets A Disappointing Release image
August Rush turned out to be one of my favorite movies from 2007 – an opinion that surprised even me as the movie is somewhat derivative and manipulative. Still, it is a modern day fairy tale, which gives the story some leeway, and, if nothing else, the music is exceptional and one of my favorite things to listen to on my iPod.

Now the movie, which stars Freddie Highmore, Keri Russell, Johnathan Rhys Meyers, and Robin Williams, is headed for DVD, Blu-ray, and HD DVD. The DVD and Blu-ray versions will hit stores on March 11th, while the HD DVD version will follow around April 1st.

What’s a bit disappointing for the movie is that, no matter what format you purchase, you’re getting the exact same bonus material: additional scenes. There are no commentary tracks or featurettes about the music of August Rush included. I was hoping the disc might even include full, uninterrupted versions of some of the songs performed by Rhys Meyers (among others), but no such luck.

Personally, I’ll probably be sitting this release out, regardless of my love for the movie. If you’re interested, however, check out August Rush on DVD and Blu-ray on March 11th and on HD DVD on April 1st.
