Rumors and hints have been swirling for a while now about the contents of the inevitable Avatar collector's edition. Now some promising details have appeared via, of all things, a video from a Cameron-produced documentary about the Amazon that will purportedly be appearing as a special feature on the upcoming collector's edition. Numerous sites are reporting on the video, but so far we haven't been able to get it to play for us on either YouTube or on the documentary's website, so take all this with a grain of salt until officially confirmed by Fox.
According to High Def Disc News, the video says that the Avatar (Collector's Edition) will be available on November 16th on both DVD and Blu-ray. This new version will supposedly include 16 new minutes of footage reincorporated into the film itself, including an alternate opening on Earth. That's in addition to 45 minutes of rumored "unfinished material," whatever that means. Personally I'm hoping for an alternate ending where Pandora is overrun by facehuggers and the Colonial Marines are forced to nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure. We'll update with details once Fox sends out a press release to render this more than speculation, but in the mean time here's a screencap from the video revealing the supposed release date and cover art.
