After surpassing The Dark Knight to beat first-day DVD sales records, Avatar has turned to the camera and asked, “What else ya’ got?” As of Monday afternoon, the film has sold 6.7 million Blu-rays and DVDs, according to Twentieth Century Fox and as reported by the Associated Press.
Furthering James Cameron’s ongoing quest to live up to his self-assigned title of “King of the World,” Avatar has sold $130 million of product, breaking down to 2.7 million Blu-rays and 4 million DVDs since going on sale last Thursday, April 22nd. Impressive, if unsurprising, numbers, to be sure. What will be really interesting is to see how the inevitable Special Editions do, or even the eventual 3D versions. Supposedly that tech is on its way as early as this summer; is there any doubt that Avatar will be one of the forefront titles once it arrives? |
