CinemaBlend head honcho Josh Tyler loved Werner Herzog's Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans. He wasn't alone, with the film currently rating 89% Fresh amongst Top Critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Most of the rest of us, however, haven't had a chance to see the flick yet. We'll be able to remedy that April 6th, when First Look Studios brings Nic Cage's latest attempt at respectability to Blu-ray and DVD.
Set in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Port of Call New Orleans casts Cage as Detective Terrence McDonagh, a less than reputable cop as addicted to abusing his authority as he is to the drugs that abuse scores him. With a script by TV veteran William Finkelstein (NYPD Blue, Law & Order), POCNA is a spiritual successor rather than a sequel or remake to the original 1992 Bad Lieutenant starring Harvey Keitel. Between this and Kick-Ass, could Cage finally be poised to make us forget about "the bees?" Yeah, probably not. Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans arrives April 6th on Blu-ray ($29.98) and DVD ($28.98). If you can't afford the extra dollar for the Blu-ray, check your couch cushions.
