Celebrate 25 Years Of Spinal Tap On Blu-Ray Get ready to explore the fine line between stupid and clever when MGM Home Entertainment sends This is Spinal Tap to Blu-ray on July 28th. It’s been 25 years since the mock rockumentary was released but its fan base is as strong as ever. On top of having a lasting influence on a significant number of movie lovers, This is Spinal Tap is said to have had a major affect on pop culture as well.

The British rock group Spinal Tap was created by two childhood friends, David St. Hubbins (Michael McKean) and Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest) and grew to include Derick Smalls (Harry Shearer). The film focuses on the band’s attempt to make an American comeback while being the focus of Marti DeBergi’s (Rob Reiner) documentary. The group suffers through a number of instances spoofing the real life experiences of our favorite rockers while trying to attain success.

This is Spinal Tap may have had a slow start but over time it’s gained a serious amount of recognition. It holds the 29th spot on AFI’s 100 Years … 100 Laughs list as well as the number one position on Entertainment Weekly’s Top 50 Cult Movies of All Time list. Not only do I trust these sources, but I trust the masses. There’s got to be a reason so many people hold this film in such high regards.

This BD was clearly designed to appeal to those devout fans. In addition to the film, it comes with over an hour of deleted scenes and outtakes, audio commentary with the band members, the “Catching Up With Marty Di Bergi” featurette, four Spinal Tap music videos, the band’s appearance on The Joe Franklin Show and footage of the band selling cheese and other products. On top of that, there’s the “Stonehenge” performance at the 2007 Live Earth Concert and the National Geographic Stonehenge interview with Nigel Tufnel. What more could you ask for?

The BD is modestly priced for having so much material. It’ll only cost you $34.99 to rock out with the movie and all of the special features!
