Where in the world is Cuba Gooding Jr. these days, I hear you ask. Somewhere near Tahoe, I respond. Or past Tahoe, rather, since he apparently took a wrong turn somewhere in that vicinity. Find out for sure on November 17th when he joins Miguel Ferrer and Harvey Keitel in the new direct-to-DVD crime thriller, Wrong Turn at Tahoe.

Gooding Jr. plays a violent collector for Ferrer’s mob boss character, but he finds his career and life in jeopardy when he’s caught in the middle of a struggle between the mob boss and a drug lord played by Keitel. It’s been a while since Gooding’s done anything worthwhile, but maybe mixing with the talents of Ferrer and Keitel will bring out more of the Oscar-winning Gooding and less of the Snow Dogs Gooding. It’s the first produced credit for screenwriter Eddie Knickerson, so that’s a big question mark, but director Franck Khalfoun co-wrote and directed the “Rachel Nichols stuck in a parking garage with a psycho stalker” flick P2. That flick had its moments, some of which didn’t solely involve Nichols’ cleavage. Yeah, it’s direct-to-DVD, but these days that’s hardly the scarlet letter it once was.

Wrong Turn at Tahoe is available on DVD November 17th from Paramount Home Entertainment, and the disc will include a making-of feature. Could Cuba Gooding Jr. have more in him than another Daddy Day Care? Give the trailer a peep and see what you think.
