In Crank, Chev Chelios (Jason Statham) had to do anything and everything in order to keep his adrenaline pumping. Now, he must worry about keeping his heart pumping. And no, I’m not referring to his relationship with his girlfriend, Eve (Amy Smart). See if Chev can stay charged when Lionsgate Home Entertainment releases Crank 2: High Voltage on DVD and Blu-ray September 8th

You’d think a man of action like the improbably named Chev Chelios would be satisfied plunging to a dramatic death from a helicopter. But Chev still has some juice left in him. Crank 2 picks up right where the first film left off. Chev has just hit the ground after his freefall battle with Ricky Verona. He’s taken by a group of Chinese medics, who remove his heart and replace it with an artificial one, requiring periodic jolts of electricity to keep working. Naturally, Chev escapes and reunites with Eve and Doc Miles (Dwight Yoakam). Now, not only must Chev fend off the Chinese Triads and a Mexican gang boss, but he also has to get his heart back.

You’ll have three options for this thriller: a single-disc DVD, a two-disc DVD, and a two-disc Blu-ray edition. The single-disc version only comes with the film and the theatrical trailer, but if you want to amp things up go for the two-disc DVD, that comes with audio commentary by writers-directors Brian Taylor and Mark Neveldine, a making-of featurette, “Crank 2: Take 2,” and a digital copy of the movie. To take things to the extreme without using jumper cables, go for the Blu-ray option, which comes with all of the above, as well as “Crank’d Out Commentary” with Bonus View Picture-in-Picture mode featuring the cast and crew, a gag reel, wrap-party featurette, Lionsgate Live, and MoLog, an application that allows viewers to create a blog to share with other MoLog users.

The single-disc DVD will cost you $29.95, so you might as well just spend the extra $5 or $10 and go for the two-disc DVD for $34.98 or the Blu-ray for $39.99. Spending $29.95 on a DVD without any bonus material makes no sense. Either rent the movie or drop more cash and get some special features. The two-disc DVD and BD have a nice selection of extras, especially the BD. I’m always a sucker for a blooper reel, and the wrap-party featurette is a fun bonus you don’t come across too often.
