Experience The Last Kiss on DVD image
When we recorded our end of summer wrap-up for the Weekly Blend Audio Show, The Last Kiss was my most anticipated movie for the rest of the year. While I wasn’t blown away by the Zach Braff film the way I was with Garden State, I wasn’t disappointed either. The Last Kiss, based on the Italian film L’ Ultimo bacio is just a little too real in its take on the changes that happen in friendships and relationships as people get into their 30s. Real is good… but it’s harsh sometimes, and so is this movie, making it a bit too hard for a family fun Christmas release. Instead it’s coming out on DVD the day after Christmas – December 26th. So maybe people can’t give The Last Kiss for Christmas, but you can use those wonderful gift certificates you get to pick it up for yourself.

But wait a minute, this isn’t a Zach Braff movie, is it? I mean, it stars the “Scrubs” star but Tony Goldwyn directed the film. You wouldn’t know Braff wasn’t wholly responsible for the film, however, considering the upcoming DVD release. The Garden State director is involved in both a commentary track with Goldwyn and another with Goldwyn and other cast members. He also introduces a Cary Brothers music video (Braff chose a lot of the music for the score and directed the “Ride” video).

The DVD includes:

  • Commentary by Zach Braff and director Tony Goldwyn
  • Commentary by Zach Braff, Tony Goldwyn, Jacinda Barrett, Rachel Bilson, Michael Weston and Eric Christian Olsen
  • Filmmakers’ Perspective
  • Getting Together
  • Behind Our Favorite Scenes
  • Last Thoughts
  • Music Video “Ride” by Cary Brothers with an introduction by Zach Braff
  • Seven deleted or extended scenes:
    • The Bachelor Party extended
    • The Treehouse Scene extended
    • Izzy & Arianna on the Phone
    • Chris & Lisa Fight in the Kitchen
    • Kim Chases Michael
    • Two Alternate Endings
  • Gag Reel
  • Theatrical Trailer

  • Not a bad amount of bonus material for a warmly received drama. As a big fan of Zach Braff’s work, I highly recommend checking out The Last Kiss, just be prepared for a movie a little different than the lighter material we usually see from the star.
