Hold on tight because Fast & Furious is racing to Blu-ray and DVD on July 28th. Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster return in the franchise’s fourth film. The movie blew Universal away when it made double what was expected and earned the honor of being the film with the highest-grossing opening weekend for the month of April.
Dominic Toretto (Diesel) is compelled to return to Los Angeles to find out who’s behind the murder of someone close to his heart. Meanwhile, FBI agent Brian O’Conner (Walker) is conducting an investigation of his own. Brian’s search for a drug dealer leads him to the same man that Dom discovers is connected to the murder. In an effort to track down their common enemy, both men get behind the wheel and join a heroin trafficking team on an adventure filled with speed, exotic cars and a lot of octane.
If you enjoyed any of the other Fast and Furious films, you’re going to love this one. It brings you exactly what you’d expect from this type of film and asks for nothing in return. You get supped up cars, high-speed chases and unbelievable stunts and are required to utilize zero brainpower to follow the plot.
I love my Mini Cooper, but have no interest in cars or racing. Even the inclusion of a gag reel can’t get me to drop $29.98 for the single-disc version of this film. The only person who should be spending $34.98 for the two-disc DVD set or $38.98 for the Blu-ray edition is someone who wishes they could be Dom and Brian. The bonus feature menu was clearly formulated to please fans. There’s an original short film from Vin Diesel called “Los Bandoleros” that gives the back-story of the main characters. “Under the Hood – Muscle Cars” gives viewers a look at the real stars of the film, the muscle cars while “Under the Hood – Imports” focuses entirely on the imported carts. There’s also “Getting the Gang Back Together,” “Driving School with Vin Diesel,” “Shooting the Big Rig Heist,” “Races and Chases,” “High Octane Action: The Stunts,” “South of the Border” trailers, the “Blanco” music video, a gag reel, filmmaker commentary and a digital copy of the film. If you opt for the Blu-ray version, you can also add U-Control and BD-Live to the list. The single disc version only comes with the gag reel and the commentary.
For the ultimate fan, there’s a 4-disc, 4-movie collection with The Fast and the Furious, 2 Fast 2 Furious, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and Fast & Furious. If you love these movies, odds are, you already own the original film. I can’t imagine how the second and third film could please even the biggest car fanatic, so please don’t go wasting $69.98 on the set. If you want to see Brian and Dom in action that badly, get yourself Fast & Furious and just look forward to hearing about a potential fifth film.
