Fans of Firefly have been enjoying rumors about the series coming to the high definition formats for a while now. Unfortunately they’ve just been rumors until now, with no read delivery. Well, that changes today with an official announcement from Fox that Captain Mal and the rest of his crew of malcontents will be released on Blu-ray on November 11th.
The new Blu-ray release will offer all the commentaries and extras you’ve come to love from the standard DVD set, but the episodes will be in high definition. Two new features have been added for the high definition edition of the series though. First, there’s a new commentary for “Our Mrs. Reynolds” featuring Joss Whedon, Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk, and Ron Glass. The second new piece is a roundtable reunion, where Whedon, Fillion, Tudyk, and Glass have lunch and reminisce about the fourteen episode series.
If you’ve seen the difference between Serenity in standard DVD and high definition, and you’re a fan of Firefly, you know this is one release you have to pick up.
