Fox and MGM is joining the rallying cry to find a cure for breast cancer with Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The studios are releasing some of their most popular romantic comedies, inspirational adventures, and classic movies under a “DVDs for the Cure” banner that includes special packaging to indicate which titles are part of the promotion. For each DVD title sold, a contribution will be made to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Among the special banner titles are An Affair to Remember, A Walk in the Clouds, Entrapment, Ever After, In Her Shoes, Legally Blonde, Mermaids, Moulin Rouge, Never Been Kissed, Say Anything, Thelma & Louise, and There’s Something About Mary. The special package (shown below) is a pink wrapper with “DVDs for the Cure” printed on it.
Now, here’s the fine print: for each DVD sold, Fox and MGM is making a fifty-cent donation to Susan G. Komen. They are recommending the DVDs be sold for $14.98, but only fifty cents of that goes into the donation for the breast cancer organization, so this isn’t exactly an excuse to run out and buy all twelve titles in hopes of making a sizable contribution. In order to make a decent difference, you’ll need to make your contribution directly to the cause I guess. However, the studios have committed to a minimum donation of $250,000.
The titles will be released September 18th as part of breast cancer awareness month. Here’s a look at the packaging you should look for if you want to donate your fifty cents:
