Friday Night Lights Makes One Last Touchdown On DVD

I came late to the Friday Night Lights party. After having been hectored by a friend to give the show a chance for years, I finally dove in this past year via Netflix. And sure enough: the show really is that good. The fact that it hasn't gotten more respect and ratings that it has is a real shame, but hopefully more people will discover the sharply written high school football drama via DVD and Netflix and the like. And now the full run of the show will be available to everybody, because Friday Night Lights: The Fifth and Final Season is scheduled to hit DVD on April 5th, courtesy of Universal Studios Home Entertainment.

The set will list for $29.98 and will include several special features as listed below. I can't recommend the show highly enough, whether you know a jot about football or not. In fact, if you're curious and have a Netflix account, you can watch the first four seasons of the show online right this very minute.

Bonus Features
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Featurette:
    • "The Lights Go Out" -- An emotional and entertaining journey through all five seasons of Friday Night Lights as the cast and crew say goodbye.
  • Featured Commentaries:
    • “Don’t Go” -- Commentary with director Michael Waxman
    • “Always” -- Commentary with executive producer and showrunner Jason Katims
