Before The Office, we were all asking: Ricky who? But now Ricky Gervais is becoming a household name, bringing laughs to millions throughout the United States. No wonder his performance at the WaMu Theater was sold out. Ricky Gervais: Out of England was taped live for HBO last year and marked the comedian’s American television debut. On March 31st you can watch his performance over and over again when this stand-up comedy special is released on DVD courtesy of HBO Home Entertainment. On top of the 72-minute performance filled with jokes about fund-raising, moronic friends and fame, you’ll also get an extended interview with Gervais.

Even though I am not a fan of stand-up comedy – for some reason the jokes go right over my head – Gervais’ performance in Ghost Town does make me curious about his stand-up show. Not that Ghost Town was a masterpiece of comedy, but something about Gervais’ humor appealed to me allowing me to loathe and love his character at the same time. Between the success of the original BBC comedy series The Office and the HBO series Extras, both of which he co-wrote and co-directed, something about this DVD is bound to make you chuckle. For just $19.97, it’s worth checking out.
