Jim Carrey moved back to the world of serious acting earlier this year, appearing in Joel Schumacher’s The Number 23. Although the movie didn’t fare very well in theaters, New Line is taking a pretty heavy approach to the upcoming DVD, putting enough material on the release to make it worth checking out, if only to compare the final product with original ideas and endings.
The July 24th release is being placed under New Line’s “Infinifilm” banner, which means branching bonus material that interrupts the flow of the movie. It’s usually great if you can access it separately, although I’ve never been a huge fan of the way the Infinifilm DVDs work.
Take a look at what’s currently being planned for the DVD release:
“All-Access Pass” features:
Feature commentary with director Joel Schumacher
Deleted scenes with commentary from director Joel Schumacher
“Making of The Number 23” documentary
“Creating the World of Fingerling” featurette Beyond-the-MovieTM documentaries:
“The Number 23 Enigma” – the legacy behind the obsession with the number 23
“How to Do Your Numbers” – the history of numerology infinifilmTM links – behind-the-scenes branching featurettes
Original ending
Original idea
23’s in the movie
23’s on the set
Fingerling’s tattoo 16x9 widescreen (2.35:1) version of the film
DTS 6.1, Dolby Digital 5.1 and Stereo Surround 2.0
English & Spanish subtitles
Of course, I would be lax if I didn’t point out that the release date is July 24th… just one day’s difference could have at least made for an interesting marketing campaign but instead New Line will have to push The Number 23 on the 24th.
