Earlier this month, director Edgar Wright sent out a Tweet that had Quentin Tarantino/Robert Rodriguez fans jumping for joy. While it was a bit cryptic, it suggested that a Grindhouse box set, complete with fake trailers, was on the way. The news made sense, because the full-length Machete is due out in September and the new release would be a perfect tie-in. Now the set has been confirmed, but they are missing the mark by about a month.
High-Def Digest has confirmed that Grindhouse: Special Edition is officially in the works and will arrive in stores on October 5th. The disc's specs are not yet confirmed, but the site says that it will be a two-disc box that will only retail for $19.97. What's peculiar about the release date is that Machete is set it hit theaters on September 3rd, and unless it magically makes Avatar money, it will likely be out of the box office top 10 by the time the double-feature hits the shelves. Tarantino, between Jackie Brown (didn't come out for five years after release), Kill Bill (still waiting for the whole bloody affair), and Grindhouse, has never appeared to be in a big rush to get his complete films onto the DVD market. There have been false starts and empty promises galore in his history, but let's hope that this will finally be the one to kick-start getting it all done. |
