Grindhouse May Finally Get The Box Set It DeservesAuthor: Eric Eisenberg

Quentin Tarantino, while a terrific filmmaker, is notoriously awful when it comes to DVD releases. It took five years for Jackie Brown to find its way on to a disc, and while rumors have persisted for years, we've still never seen Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair, which was supposed to combine both volumes and return color to the famous Crazy 88s battle scene. Those offenses are minor compared to what has been done with Grindhouse. One of the best movie-going experiences of the last decade, the Robert Rodriguez/Tarantino double-feature has never been put into a complete box-set, despite promises from both directors. Both films had separate releases and, with the exception of Rodriguez's Machete trailer on the Planet Terror disc, the fake trailers haven't seen the light of day since the theatrical run. That may finally be changing.
Director Edgar Wright, who made the fake trailer Don't for the film, recently tweeted"So, get this, tomorrow I am doing a commentary on 'Don't'. Some of you will know what that means is finally happening." It looks as though the day has come. When you think about it, getting the box set prepared now makes a lot of sense. Grindhouse spawned the full-length Machete, which is due out in September, and what better way to promote the film than by releasing its under-seen predecessor in special-edition form? Perhaps this means we will have to wait until Kill Bill Vol. 3 comes out to see The Whole Bloody Affair. I just made myself cry a little. |
