Hairspray rocked audiences earlier this year and now New Line has announced multiple editions of the movie coming to stores later this year. November 20th will see the release of a single-disc DVD, a two-disc “Shake and Shimmy” Edition, a gift set variation of that last one, and a Blu-ray edition. An HD DVD edition of the movie is also planned, although the release date for that hasn’t been announced yet.

The single disc edition of Hairspray just brings you the movie: the story of Tracy Turnblad, a girl with a passion for dancing who wins a spot on the local TV dance show, putting her into conflict with the princess of the show, Amber. The movie stars John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Queen Latifah, Christopher Walken, Amanda Bynes, Zac Efron, and introduces Nikki Blonski as Tracy.

If you really want to rock the beat, you might be interested in the two-disc “Shake and Shimmy” special edition, which features a new treat: reversible packaging. You can either have the adult crowd or the youthful dancers featured on your DVD package. The “Shake and Shimmy” edition is filled with extras sure to please Hairspray fans, including looks behind the making of the musical and a previously unreleased musical number:

The Blue-ray edition of the movie includes all of those bonus materials, plus a “Behind the Beat” picture-in-picture option allowing viewers to watch behind-the-scenes footage and on-screen commentary concurrently with the running feature. The HD DVD edition will include the same.

For those really into Hairspray there will be a deluxe gift set that includes the “Shake and Shimmy” two-disc special edition along with a metal school locker that can be personalized and decorated with custom photos and stickers. The lockers are available in “Penny Pink” or “Link Lime”. The set also includes an exclusive Hairspray tote bag.
