DVD & BLU-RAY
Kevin Smith Goes Bluer Than Usual On Blu-RayAuthor: David Wharton

Writer-director Kevin Smith has often joked about his bare-bones approach to directing when it came to his early films such as Clerks and Mallrats – if things get really exciting, he might actually move the camera. That being the case, his back catalogue might not strike you as an ideal candidate for a Blu-Ray release. Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment must disagree, however, because they’ve announced three of Smith’s films are getting just that. On November 17th Clerks, Chasing Amy, and Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back will hit Blu-ray for $39.99 a pop. You can also get a boxed set with all three for $89.99, which isn’t a bad deal considering the individual pricing.
It’s hard to say how much benefit the tiny-budgeted Clerks will benefit from a high-def transfer, but it will be nice to have a solid archival edition of Chasing Amy, still arguably Smith’s best film. And then there’s Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, which means if you buy the three-movie set you’ll basically get two-and-a-half good films. Hey, at least it ain’t Jersey Girl… Each new release includes the usual View Askew-approved mess of extras, a mix of new stuff and reruns from the previous DVD releases. All in all, it’s a good deal for Smith fans, even if one of the films isn’t nearly as good as the other two. Here's what you'll get on the special-features front: Clerks Special Features
