Kill Bill Goes Blu-ray But Remains Separate

By Rafe Telsch: 2008-07-05 12:56:21
Kill Bill Goes Blu-ray But Remains Separate The good news is that Quentin Tarantino’s longest picture, Kill Bill will be coming in a high definition release later this year. That’s right - Uma Thurman with katana wielding action in 1080p. The bad news - the film’s are still separated. Regardless of that errant Amazon entry for Kill Bill - The Whole Bloody Affair that fans have been clamoring for ever since Tarantino hinted at the idea, the pictures aren’t being spliced together anytime soon.

Wait - hinted at? No, Tarantino flat out said his plans were to release the films put together. That’s where we even got the title “the whole bloody affair” from - Tarantino himself. Of course, the director hasn’t given any tidbits about that plan in quite a while, or the animated prequel, or the continuation of the story in a sequel. In fact, nothing much has come from Tarantino since his Grindhouse failure, except for a few drunken comments about his next picture Inglorious Bastards.

Frankly, I think “The Whole Bloody Affair” is just a pipe dream that isn’t going to wind up happening, putting Tarantino next to George Lucas on breaking fanboy dreams. In the meantime, Tarantino has only damaged his own DVD sales by introducing the concept. I know I’m not the only one who held off on buying the separate volumes of Kill Bill awaiting the integrated film. Now I’ll have to consider whether it’s worth picking up on Blu-ray on September 9th or if I should hold on to my hope of a release that probably will never come.
