Mind Your Sanity, Shutter Island Arrives On Blu-Ray June 8th
Ready to feel like “a rat in a maze?” On June 8th Paramount Home Entertainment will release Shutter Island on DVD, Blu-ray, and On Demand. But beware, because as creepy George Noyce (Jackie Earle Haley) says, “You’ll never leave this island.”
Based on Dennis Lehane’s novel, Shutter Island is the story of Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio), a U.S. Marshal sent to Shutter Island for a case involving the disappearance of a patient at Ashecliffe Hospital, a facility for the criminally insane. With his new partner, Chuck (Mark Ruffalo), by his side, Teddy investigates the situation and discovers a little more than he bargained for.
This is Martin Scorsese we’re talking about; Shutter Island is an extremely well made film. However, the tension is minimal for those who’ve read the book. If you have any desire to check out Lehane’s work, I’d suggest seeing the film first. Then again, you’d probably run into a similar issue, knowing the grand twist and thus minimizing the book’s suspense. There’s really no getting around this one.
Unfortunately, there’s no mention of any bonus material on the DVD edition. Even the BD version is seriously lacking. It’ll only come with a making-of featurette called “Behind the Shutters” and “Into the Lighthouse,” a piece about the history of psychiatric therapies used in the 1950s, told through cast and crew interviews. At least the pricing reflects the bulk of the product, or lack thereof. The DVD will cost just $19.99 and the Blu-ray $29.99.
