Paramount is taking full advantage of the new Star Trek movie as an opportunity to introduce new fans to old Star Trek. Just because the new movie isn’t “your father’s Trek” doesn’t mean people who fall in love with the new movie can’t enjoy the older incarnations, so the studio is releasing two “Best of” collections focusing on the original series and The Next Generation.

Of course, fans are going to argue what really are the best episodes of their favorite series, but I think Paramount has done a pretty good job with these two four-episode releases. “City on the Edge of Forever” is considered to be the best Classic Trek had to offer, and it headlines the original series disc, while Next Generation focuses on Borg territory with both parts of “The Best of Both Worlds.” Personally, I would have swapped out that last episode with “The Inner Light,” but that’s just me.

Take a look at the announced details for the “Star Trek: Best Of” Collections on DVD below. This isn’t the only new Star Trek releases we’ll be getting in celebration of the new movie though; be sure to check out details on other releases here and here.
