Poltergiest Gets Remastered For Its 25th Anniversary

Poltergiest Gets Remastered For Its 25th Anniversary First they tried to communicate with you through the television, now they’re coming to it in a remastered anniversary edition. The classic Steven Spielberg film Poltergeist is celebrating its 25th Anniversary and is getting a new DVD release as part of the celebration.

Remastered and restored, the new DVD is accompanied by a new featurette, “They’re Here: The Real World of Poltergiest Revealed,” that looks away from the movie and instead focuses on real paranormal activity, looking at actual hauntings and disturbances, complete with interviews with people involved, Hans Holzer (a paranormal disturbance professional), and Colin Wilson (author and paranormal authority).

I’ll be honest, only tacking on a featurette looking at the paranormal is a little disappointing for a 25th Anniversary edition. That same content has already been explored somewhat in DVD releases like White Noise and it wasn’t quite as compelling. How about a featurette on the supposed “Poltergiest curse” or a retrospective making-of like Jaws and Close Encounters got?

Take a look at the artwork below and check out the Poltergiest 25th Anniversary Edition on DVD on October 9th (click thumbnails for larger images). It may be slim on offerings, but it’s better than nothing if you don’t already own the movie.
