War movies didn’t have a very good year in 2007, which is only a shame in that there were a lot of talented people investing themselves in some of these stories. Most of them I didn’t care enough to see, but Rendition was the exception. With Reece Witherspoon, Jake Gyllenhall, Meryl Streep, and Alan Arkin, the movie about a mysterious disappearance and the lengths government will go through to protect freedom really intrigued me. Unfortunately, I still didn’t see it, but on February 19th I’ll get a chance as Rendition comes to DVD.

A February release date is too late to be an Oscar reminder, although if the movie gets any Oscar attention it means the general public will get a chance to see it before the awards show. But this is a “real” release (meaning it’s not prompted by some other motivation) so it’s carrying a fair amount of extras:

  • Audio commentary with director Gavin Hood
  • “Intersections: The Making of Rendition” documentary
  • “Outlawed” featurette
  • Deleted scenes with audio commentary
  • Alternate scenes
  • Theatrical trailer
