The Cleveland Show Steaming Its Way Toward A September DVD ReleaseAuthor: David Wharton

Much as I may laugh my ass off at Family Guy and American Dad, there's more than a little truth to this College Humor video envisioning MacFarlane's eventual total domination of the Fox Network. MacFarlane's tendency to return to the same well over and over has only become more apparent with the arrival of The Cleveland Show, yet again featuring, as the above clip aptly puts it, a fat dad, hot mom, awkward kid, mean baby, and eccentric supporting character that wouldn't normally have the ability to talk.
It's not that the show is bad, exactly, it's just very much more of the same, and like a photocopy of a photocopy, its appeal has started to blur around the edges. Bully for Seth for setting up his own little animated empire, but I'd rather he stay focused on keeping Family Guy and American Dad funny than give us the exact same jokes with a different setting and slightly altered versions of the characters we already like. Nevertheless, I have no doubt that plenty of MacFarlane's die-hard fans will sop up The Cleveland Show: The Complete Season One like gravy with a biscuit. And hey, who am I to begrudge them that simple pleasure. I've got new episodes of Futurama to watch, you kids have fun. Here's what your $39.98 will get you come September 28th: The Cleveland Show: The Complete Season One
