TV on DVD is the great thing ever created. Well, it’s a close second behind the invention of the Internet. There’s nothing more enjoyable than curling up in bed and squeezing in an episode before going to sleep or even watching one to wind down after a long day at work. I’ve watched many different genres of television shows on DVD, but the type I enjoy the most is comedy. Now that I’ve gone through the majority of 30 Rock, why not switch gears and go from live action to a cartoon?
The Seth MacFarlane sitcom Family Guy, has actually found a majority of its success on DVD rather than on air. It was created back in 1999, but Fox canceled it after its second season in 2000. Stewie-lovers united and the show came back for a third season, after which, it was canceled, again. It wasn’t until the DVD release sold an impressive 2.2 million copies in one year that the network realized it was worth hanging on to. Ever since, Family Guy has been thriving and is scheduled to continue until 2012. The millions of hardcore Family Guy fans will likely agree with me when I suggest you purchase Family Guy Volume 7 when it hits DVD on June 16th. Who doesn’t love watching the crude and twisted antics of a dysfunctional family? The three-disc DVD set has 13 episodes from seasons six and seven during which Brian follows Stewie’s relationship advice, Mort Goldman is sent back in time and Peter plays in a golf outing with O.J. Simpson. On top of that, they also feature a number of celebrity guests like Johnny Knoxville, Bob Barker and Seth Rogen. There’s also a bunch of bonus material including 29 deleted scenes, three “Animatic Episodes” with optional commentary, “Take Me Out to pLace Tonight,” “Family Guy CRIBZ,” “Comic Con 2008,” “Family Guy Art Show” and optional cast & crew commentary on every episode. Do yourself a favor and drop the $39.98 to buy Family Guy Volume 7. There’s no better way to spend your free time than hanging out with a freakin’ sweet family like the Griffins. |
